Thematic blog network Populis acquires Blogo

Digital media company Populis is acquiring Italian blog network Blogo for USD8m. Blogo, which was originally owned by web publisher Dada, creates themed blog networks. It has more than 250 bloggers across 70 niche markets in the UK, France, Italy and Brazil. It claims to receive an estimated 100m page views a month.

Populis works with more than 500 media properties including Excite Europe, Better Deals and Nanopublishing. By acquiring Blogo it seems CEO Salvatore Esposito is now steering the company into the South American market and attempting to increase its multilingual content. According to Populis, the move will bring the monthly content production for the two sites to 35,000 items and up its unique user count to 24.8m a month. The deal is due to complete in February 2011.
