December’s venture capital investment numbers are in and they show a marked slowdown in the funding, with companies raising USD3.4bn across 215 deals. That puts it down 42% compared to November's total. It’s also down 63% from December in 2014. That month saw a record breaking USD9.1bn invested and included 12 USD100m+ rounds, while December 2015 saw only one, Lyft’s USD1bn round.
As ever, the US dominated venture capital investment, taking 74% of all venture capital funding in December with just shy of USD2.5bn invested. China took the second spot with more than USD230m and India came in third with USD152m raised in the period. The gap between the US and China was particularly large this month, with the US hauling in more than 10 times as much as China.
