Apple Pay brought smartphone payments into the mainstream and now the iPhone maker is expected to bring this technology to the web with support for e-commerce websites. It’s an interesting move for Apple, as while the company does take a cut of transactions on Apple Pay the money is relatively small change for the company. Instead for Apple, this is all about creating another selling point for the iPhone, iPad and MacBook (which is expected to support Touch ID soon). This is little comfort for the companies that actually do rely on payments for their money. PayPal, for instance, could take a big hit from this, as the company still makes most of its money from web payments.
