DMGT absorbs digital unit and loses section head

The Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT) is absorbing its standalone Associated Northcliffe Digital (AND) division into its consumer unit, A&N Media, in a cost cutting exercise that will see division CEO Richard Titus exit the company. Titus is standing down immediately as a result of the shake-up, but will stay on in a consultancy role until the end of November, according to the Guardian. Some of AND's more than 1,000 employees are expected to lose their jobs.

The decision to absorb AND comes despite improving results at the division. Revenues rose 5% in the last six months of the financial year and the division swung to a profit. Titus was reportedly planning extensive activities for the division, including the launch of 150 apps. However, the Guardian says Titus clashed with A&N Media CEO Kevin Beatty about the focus of his role.
